How to Read a Push-Pull Connector Part Code

2026-10-12

Shell type, size, contacts, keying and accessories are all encoded in one string β€” here is how to decode it and order the exact connector you need.

How to Read a Push-Pull Connector Part Code

Every TRCONN push-pull connector order is specified by a compact part code. Read it correctly and you can tell whether a plug mates with a socket, which key position it carries and which cable clamp it needs β€” before anything is shipped. Take the straight plug code TGG.1B.306.CLAD62 as the worked example.

Field 1: shell type

The first letters name the shell. For B Series:

CodeShell
TGStraight plug
TH90Β° elbow plug
TAFixed plug (panel-mounted)
TEStraight plug with front sealing
ZGFixed socket, internal thread
ZEFixed socket, external thread
ZCFixed socket, double nut
ZP / ZXPCB sockets, straight and elbow pin
DHFloating socket

So TG in the example is a straight cable plug. A third letter carries the keying: G is the standard 0Β° positioning pin, and A / B / C / J / F mark the 30Β° / 60Β° / 90Β° / 45Β° / 155Β° key positions.

Field 2: shell size

The second field is the size group β€” 00B, 0B, 1B, 2B, 3B or 4B in the B Series. The example's 1B fixes the shell diameter, the mounting thread and the drill pattern. Both halves of a connection must share the same size field.

Field 3: contact count

The three-digit field counts the contacts: 306 means 06 contacts β€” a six-way multi-core layout. 302 means 2, 316 means 16. Each shell size accepts a defined range; the B Series spans 2–32 contacts overall.

Field 4 onward: contacts, keying and tail

The remaining letters and numbers specify contact plating and material, the keying letter, and the tail. In TGG.1B.306.CLAD62: C = brass chrome-plated shell, L = PPS insulator, A = solder-type male contact, D62 = D-type clamp for a 6.2 mm cable OD. A socket code such as ZGG.1B.306.CLL reads the same way β€” brass chrome shell, PPS insulator, solder-type female contacts, no tail hardware.

Practical checks before ordering

  • Match shell type + size + contact count on both halves; then confirm the keying letter if the panel carries several same-size connectors.
  • Choose the tail code from the actual cable OD β€” clamps step 3.2 / 4.2 / 5.2 / 6.2 / 7.2 mm (D32–D72).
  • For PCB terminations, check the pin style (straight or elbow) and the board orientation before finalising the code.

If a code is ambiguous, the fastest fix is to send us the intended function β€” plug or socket, cable or board, panel thickness and cable OD β€” and we will return the exact code plus the dimension drawing. You can also browse the ready-defined variants, for example the TGG sleeve version or the ZEG outer fixed socket.

Describe the connection β€” both halves, environment and cable β€” and we will assemble the correct part codes for you.
